For Granted...

Today was on the bus towards 201 for camp group gathering where a event in the bus spark off my chains of thoughts and eventually to blog it down. I got up the bus and I stood there observing the crowd in the bus as usual. Then a Indian family and an old lady got up the bus. As usual, 2 people gave up their seats. But this gesture of kindness is what that totally push me off my dimension. Firstly, the lady that gave up her seat for the old lady, she didn't gave up it happily or willingly but rather, she just stood up and pointed at her seat and her face was showing something like,"I know I have to give this seat up for you but I'm just not that willing". And the chinese old lady was equally bad, she stared at the lady rudely and then just sat down as tho she deserved it.... For the indian family, a lady gave up her sit so that the Indian lady could sit down with the toddler in her arms. But just when the lady offer her seat, the Indian lady without hesitation just sat down as tho someone else was gonna snatch it from her. And when she sat down, she just pretend as tho she got the sit herself and didn't even bothering thanking the lady who gave up her seat.

I don't understand why nowadays in society and a first world country like Singapore, the more our economy and "class" progress, the more degrading is our manners. Like if we step into a posh or high class restaurant, we expect the waiter to greet us with politeness and all but all we do is stick our head high and don't even respond... You may say I'm generalising Singaporean but that is indeed what the general is doing. Go anywhere in the public, there's always a lack of generosity, respect, kindness, manners. Even in our education system, it focuses so much on subjects, modules, topics and grades but fail to fork out time to inculcate manners, character and behavior in Singaporeans. Even CME periods nowadays is deem unless and for students to take a break to do their stuff.

Maybe it's what the world is building it's foundation upon. In the past, in even kingdom, dynasty or era, all their foundation was built on loyalty, respect, love, graciousness , wisdom and discipline. That's why no matter how many times these kingdoms or era fall, the next is still built on the same foundation cause that's what keeps the people at peace. The only reason for war was being not contended in being in one's one position in society or greed. But now, even as there is no longer kingdoms or war but the world is degrading as a whole. The reason for the absence of war is simply the interior war itself in the country is enough to handle then to go start a war with another country. With such competitiveness within each individual in a society, everyone is fighting against another to achieve the title of the "Cream of the Crop". And the foundation the world is built on now? Simply, money, entertainment and self fulfillment. The difference from the past? From selflessness to self-centeredness. Everyone wants their fair share from the pie now, even to the crumbs.

But even within all these stuff, I choose to believe that we, even as Christians, can make the change. Not because we can but because there's grace. There's enough love for us to encompass people for their faults, enough grace to accept people for who they are and enough of God to change people. If everyone do their part, there's no need for revival cause the world would already be saved.

I'm looking forward to cell!
